Ben Stokes calls Ashes return reports completely misleading
Stokes dismissed speculation about an Ashes return after retiring from international cricket.
Ben Stokes has firmly denied reports linking him with an Ashes comeback. The former England captain called the story completely misleading and said there was no truth to the Ashes story whatsoever.
Stokes announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year. The claims emerged after England named their squad for the upcoming Ashes tour of Australia.
Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board have not commented on the reports. Stokes last played Test cricket in July 2023 before stepping away from the format.

The squad announcement still leaves England short of proven Test match-winners who can bat six or seven, so the speculation will linger until Stokes names a successor or the selectors publicly back someone else.
