Desert Vipers CEO says Babar Azam was priority target at ILT20 auction
Babar has not played a T20I for Pakistan since the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Desert Vipers CEO Stephen Oliver said Babar Azam was high on the franchise's list of priorities at the ILT20 auction. The Pakistan batter was secured for US$80,000 after topping the run charts in both T20Is and the PSL. Oliver highlighted Babar's experience in UAE conditions and said the top order now has balance. The Vipers also signed Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah at the same price point.

Babar's PSL numbers justified the price. His international form since the World Cup did not. The Vipers are betting the league conditions will revive the batter they bought, not the one who has been dropped.
