Chinmay Sutar scored an unbeaten 400 for Mizoram against Nagaland, becoming the second Indian batter to reach the mark in first-class cricket after Bhausaheb Nimbalkar made 443 not out in 1948. Sutar batted for 517 balls, hitting 46 fours and seven sixes, and scored 68.8 percent of his team's total of 581 for nine.

He came in at the fall of the first wicket in the eighth over and added 168 runs for the fifth wicket with Jehu Anderson. After the ninth wicket fell, Lalrempuia Chhakchhuak supported him in an unbroken stand of 189 runs. Sutar surpassed Prithvi Shaw's previous Ranji record of 379 and achieved the milestone in only his second first-class match.

Sutar's innings places him among ten players in first-class history to score 400 or more, alongside Brian Lara, Don Bradman and Hanif Mohammad. He will now look to convert the dominant position into Mizoram's first outright victory in the competition.

CricHubb Take

Sutar's move from Mumbai to Mizoram has produced an innings that rewrites the franchise narrative around opportunity and red-ball development outside traditional centres.
