Leicestershire's 27-point deduction reduced to 19 after pitch breach appeal

Leicestershire's points deduction for a pitch breach has been reduced from 27 to 19 after an appeal hearing.

Leicestershire's 27-point deduction for the August breach against Glamorgan has been cut to 19. The Foxes were relegated from Division One last week after an innings defeat by champions Warwickshire.

The Cricket Discipline Panel upheld the charge after filming of an unscheduled Bollywood film left the pitch uncovered for eight hours. They imposed an immediate eight-point deduction plus the 19 points Leicestershire had earned from their 42-run win.

Following last Wednesday's hearing, the panel reinstated eight points. Leicestershire's tally in Division One now sits at 119, 17 behind third-from-bottom Essex. A fully successful appeal would lift them out of the relegation zone.

The reinstated points mean Leicestershire's final position could still change if their remaining appeal on the charge itself succeeds, but the bigger question is whether the ECB will tighten rules around outside filming on county grounds after this case.
