India head coach Gautam Gambhir thanked outgoing BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar for his contribution after the selector's tenure ended on October 4. Agarkar had taken charge of the selection panel in July 2023 and oversaw three ICC trophy wins during his time in the role. Gambhir posted on X that the three ICC trophies were testimony of Agarkar's conviction in putting team first.

The BCCI lauded Agarkar for his commitment and contribution, citing three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals. Agarkar informed the BCCI in September that he would not seek an extension to his contract. Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha was named the interim Chairman of Selectors.

The BCCI invited applications for one position on the Men's Selection Committee on Tuesday, with candidates required to have played a minimum of seven Tests or 30 first-class matches.

Agarkar's exit after overseeing a successful transition leaves the new selector to manage expectations around established players returning from retirement.
