Essex County Cricket Club ended batter Robin Das's contract after he appeared in court on Friday over two rape charges. The 24-year-old, who has Bangladeshi origin, was charged in July and remains on conditional bail ahead of a trial scheduled for January 2028.

The Metropolitan Police arrested Das in August 2025 following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton in March 2024. Das made one first-team appearance for Essex in 2026, scoring 29 runs against Middlesex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. The club said the contract decision followed his suspension and inability to fulfil playing commitments.

Essex stated the decision was separate from the legal proceedings and confirmed it maintains robust safeguarding procedures in line with ECB and PCA guidelines.

CricHubb Take

Das's limited first-team exposure in 2026 shows how quickly county contracts can end when players become unavailable, regardless of legal outcomes.
