ICC ties USA women's Olympic spot to 2027 Champions Trophy standings
The ICC shifted Olympic qualifiers to early 2028 and changed the USA women's qualification route to the 2027 Champions Trophy standings.
The ICC revised qualification rules for the women's cricket event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after meetings held in Dubai in October. The change links a potential fifth automatic berth to the February 2027 Women's Champions Trophy if the United States fail to meet ranking criteria by December 31, 2026.
Australia, India, South Africa and Great Britain have already secured women's places as the highest-ranked eligible teams from their continents. The USA men's side, ranked 13th, is assured of direct entry, but the women's side, ranked 19th, faces uncertainty under the updated rules.
Olympic qualifying tournaments for both men's and women's events were moved from 2027 to January-February 2028. Each will feature eight teams and will be staged less than six months before the Los Angeles Games. The ICC also confirmed the women's T20 World Cup in Pakistan from September 7 to October 1, 2028, followed by the men's 20-team tournament in Australia and New Zealand from October 12 to November 12.

By moving the qualifiers to within six months of the Games, the ICC has shortened the window teams will have to prepare once final places are confirmed.
