Nathan Ellis suffered a left-side strain during the second ODI against South Africa and has been ruled out of the third match. The 32-year-old will return to Australia for rehabilitation.

Joel Davies also suffered a hamstring injury while fielding as a substitute and will miss the remainder of the tour. Ellis had taken 12 wickets in five matches on the Africa tour before the injury.

Pat Cummins is expected to return for the final ODI after being rested for the first two games.

CricHubb Take

Ellis's absence removes Australia's most reliable death bowler at a time when the Test series demands fresh legs.
