Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane has thanked supporters after receiving countless messages following his retirement announcement from international cricket. The 38-year-old, who played 85 Tests, 90 One-Day Internationals and 20 T20Is between 2011 and 2023, said he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love.

Rahane led India to a historic 2-1 series victory in Australia in 2020-21 after stepping in as captain following Virat Kohli's return home. His century in Melbourne sparked one of the greatest comebacks in Test history before India completed the famous triumph at the Gabba.

Tributes poured in from Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Cheteshwar Pujara among others.

Rahane's most valuable contribution may have been showing that captaincy can be quiet and still decisive when circumstances demand it.
