Shami retires from Test cricket to focus on white-ball cricket
Mohammed Shami has retired from Test cricket. He will continue playing white-ball cricket for India and in the IPL.
Mohammed Shami has announced his retirement from Test cricket. The fast bowler stated he will focus on white-ball cricket following the decision. The announcement ends his red-ball career after 64 Tests and 229 wickets.
Shami made his Test debut in 2018 and played a key role in India's overseas successes. He last featured in the longest format during the 2023 series against Australia. His white-ball commitments will continue with the national team and in the IPL.
The decision allows Shami to manage his workload across limited-overs formats. He remains available for India's upcoming ODI and T20I commitments.

Shami's retirement removes India's most reliable overseas new-ball option in Tests. The white-ball workload he keeps may still limit his availability for future red-ball tours.
