McDonald says Stokes comeback would complete 2027 Ashes fairytale. England yet to name new Test coach.
Australia coach Andrew McDonald said a return for Ben Stokes would complete a fairytale Ashes series in 2027. Stokes retired from Test cricket in 2024 after leading England in 23 matches. McDonald made the comment during a media briefing in Perth.
The 2027 series will be the first Ashes played under the new four-year ICC cycle. England will tour Australia for five Tests. Stokes has not ruled out a comeback but has given no indication of reversing his decision.
McDonald said the prospect of facing a fully fit Stokes would lift interest in the series. England have not confirmed their coaching plans after parting ways with Brendon McCullum.
