Smriti Mandhana replaces Harmanpreet Kaur as India captain
Harmanpreet led India to the 2025 ODI World Cup title during her decade-long tenure.
Smriti Mandhana has been appointed captain of the Indian women's team across all formats after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down on Tuesday. Mandhana has led India in 18 T20Is and four ODIs previously and guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru to two Women's Premier League titles. Shafali Verma will serve as her deputy in T20Is while Deepti Sharma takes the role in ODIs. India's next assignment is a home series against Zimbabwe starting October 16.

Mandhana's first job is not building a new core. It is finishing what the old one started in the T20 format, where India have won nothing under Harmanpreet.
