SLC set to receive parliament-approved constitution before end of 2026
SLC set to receive parliament-approved constitution before end of 2026.
Sri Lanka Cricket is on course to have a new, parliament-approved constitution in place before the end of 2026, according to Eran Wickramaratne, chair of SLC's Transformation Committee. The bill has completed its first reading in parliament and is currently before the Supreme Court. Wickramaratne said the Supreme Court is expected to deliver its verdict this week.
The new constitution would address concerns raised by the ICC about government interference in cricket administration. SLC's voting rights at the ICC board remain suspended and the country has lost hosting rights for next year's Women's Champions Trophy as a result. A fully enacted constitution through parliamentary process is seen as the mechanism to restore SLC's full ICC membership status.
The bill prescribes a 14-member board with half the officials elected by SLC's member body and half serving as independent directors. At least two of the independent directors must be women. Elections at SLC could recommence in early 2027 if the process continues without disruption.

The parliamentary route for the new constitution provides SLC with the clearest path to restoring its voting rights at the ICC board.
