Delhi High Court orders disclaimer in Doosra film over Ganguly rights
The court found Doosra violated Ganguly's personality rights and ordered a disclaimer plus Rs 2 crore bank guarantee. Theatrical release continues.
The Delhi High Court ruled that the film Doosra prima facie violated Sourav Ganguly's personality rights. The court ordered filmmakers to add a disclaimer and furnish a Rs 2 crore bank guarantee. Justice Tejas Karia asked for the disclaimer in English and Hindi within two days and the bank guarantee within two weeks.
The court refused to interfere with theatrical screening. It said the film commercially exploited Ganguly's identity and persona. Ganguly and Luv Films LLP filed the lawsuit. The defendants claimed Doosra is a fictional story of a middle-class Rajasthani girl named Tara. The court observed that the defendants released the film despite knowing about an upcoming biopic.

The ruling sets a precedent for how courts will treat films that draw on living cricketers' personas without consent. Future productions will likely secure clearances earlier in the script stage.
