Mandhana named India captain across all formats
Smriti Mandhana replaces Harmanpreet Kaur as India captain across all three formats after the World Cup-winning skipper stepped down.
Smriti Mandhana has been named India's captain across all three formats after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down. Harmanpreet led India to their first global women's title at the 2025 50-over World Cup on home soil. She is only the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni to guide a team to victory in that event.
Harmanpreet captained in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is. Her last act in charge was steering India to a second straight Asian Games gold last month. She beat Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Hangzhou.
India will host Zimbabwe for three T20Is and three ODIs from October 16. The team tours South Africa in December. The series will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Mandhana inherits a settled core that has just won a World Cup, but the transition will test whether the team's success was tied to one leader or spread across the group.
