India Test squad faces fitness concerns ahead of Sri Lanka series
Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar face fitness assessments before India's Test series against Sri Lanka, with Bumrah resting until July 30 before BCCI Centre of Excellence evaluation.
Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar are among several India players facing fitness concerns ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah suffered a knee injury during the recent ODI series in England and will rest until July 30 before undergoing assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The selectors have named the squad subject to fitness clearance for both players.
Bumrah will gradually increase his bowling workload after the impact injury, while Shubman Gill continues treatment for his chronic neck problem with specialists outside the BCCI system. The series against Sri Lanka remains weeks away, giving the medical staff time to determine availability. The BCCI has not confirmed any replacements for the fitness doubts at this stage.
Saransh Jain received his maiden India Test call-up at age 33 as the selectors look to strengthen the spin department. The off-spinner impressed with his attacking style during domestic cricket and could feature if Sundar's fitness issues persist.
CricHubb Take
If both Bumrah and Sundar are ruled out, India could open the series with a spin-heavy attack in conditions that usually reward seam movement early on — something they haven't had to manage since the last Sri Lanka tour.
