West Indies CEO questions revenue model for India series

West Indies CEO Chris Dehring criticised the financial model that leaves the Caribbean board without revenue from India series, tracing the issue to a 1997 ICC decision.

West Indies Cricket CEO Chris Dehring said the Caribbean board receives no share of revenue from series against India despite the contests generating an estimated 20 to 30 million dollars. He traced the arrangement to a 1997 ICC vote that allowed member nations to retain domestic television rights rather than share them with touring teams. Dehring said the shift left West Indies dependent on smaller local markets while larger boards keep their own earnings.

The comments come as India and West Indies prepare to complete a T20I series currently locked at 2-2. Dehring argued that the current system disadvantages smaller boards that once relied on touring fees to sustain operations. He said the model benefits countries with large populations and lucrative domestic markets.

The series finale in Bengaluru could be affected by rain, which adds another layer of uncertainty to the outcome.
