Cricket Australia in contract talks with coach Andrew McDonald
McDonald remains the board's preferred choice as contract talks continue.
Cricket Australia is discussing a contract extension with head coach Andrew McDonald, according to board member Todd Greenberg. Greenberg confirmed the talks during a media briefing on Wednesday.
Greenberg said McDonald is held in high regard by the board and has delivered strong results across formats. Australia currently sit at the top of the ICC Test rankings and will defend the ODI World Cup title in 2027.
The board is also reviewing the squad's transition plans over the next six to 24 months. No deadline has been set for concluding the McDonald discussions.

Extending McDonald now would lock in continuity through the 2027 World Cup and the post-retirement rebuild that follows.
