Gareth Batty joins Chennai Super Kings as assistant coach
Gareth Batty has joined Chennai Super Kings as assistant coach after Stephen Fleming's move to England.
Gareth Batty has been appointed assistant coach of Chennai Super Kings. The 49-year-old played nine Tests, 10 ODIs and one T20I for England and captained Surrey from 2015 to 2017 after a 21-year association with the county. He served as assistant coach for Oval Invincibles when they won the 2025 title and later joined MI London in the same role for The Hundred. The appointment follows Stephen Fleming's move to the England Test role, which prompted CSK to restructure its coaching staff. Former England captain Alec Stewart praised Batty's passion and knowledge for the game.

Batty's appointment continues CSK's pattern of recruiting coaches with proven success in shorter formats rather than relying solely on Test cricket experience. His time at Oval Invincibles and MI London gives him direct exposure to the high-pressure T20 environment that defines the IPL.
