Scotland fast bowler Brad Wheal announced his retirement from professional cricket on Friday at the age of 30. Repeated injuries, including four stress fractures in his back and recent knee surgery, prevented him from meeting the physical demands of fast bowling.

Wheal represented Scotland in 44 international matches across ODIs and T20Is, taking 51 wickets. He made his debut against Hong Kong in 2016 and featured in four Men's T20 World Cups, including the 2024 edition co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. He was part of Scotland teams that defeated Bangladesh in 2021 and West Indies in 2022.

Cricket Scotland head of performance Steve Snell praised Wheal's professionalism and his contribution over a decade. Wheal also played 131 matches for Hampshire across formats and was part of two trophy-winning campaigns with the county.
