Bangladesh remove Mohammad Ashraful as batting coach

Bangladesh sack batting coach Mohammad Ashraful following poor white-ball results ahead of West Indies Tests.

CricHubb2h ago

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has removed Mohammad Ashraful from his position as national team batting coach ahead of the two-match Test series against West Indies. The decision takes effect immediately, with the opening Test scheduled to begin on October 28 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Mohammad Salahuddin will serve as interim batting coach for the series.

Ashraful was informed of the move on Saturday after supervising a training session. He confirmed the development directly, stating he is no longer part of the national setup and is waiting for his next assignment. The BCB cited recent white-ball results, including back-to-back defeats against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in the ODI tri-series, as contributing factors.

During Ashraful's tenure since November 2025, Bangladesh won five of eight Tests played. The board is exploring a permanent foreign appointment for the role while using Salahuddin on an interim basis for the West Indies series.

CricHubb Take

Ashraful's removal despite strong Test results shows how white-ball failures can override red-ball success in selection decisions at the national level.
