Gujarat Giants enter WPL 2027 mini-auction with least work to do

Michael Klinger says Gujarat Giants need only top-up signings after retaining 11 players from last season's Eliminator campaign.

Gujarat Giants head coach Michael Klinger said the franchise enters the 2027 Women's Premier League mini-auction with the least work to do among all teams. The Ahmedabad side retained 11 players after the 2026 season, releasing only Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Titas Sadhu, Ayushi Soni and Shivani Singh. Klinger said the squad already meets the minimum requirement of 15 players and needs only depth additions rather than a rebuild.

The franchise finished second in the league phase last season before losing in the Eliminator for the second consecutive year. Klinger said the side has a settled starting XI and a strong squad with multiple combinations available. He praised wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia, signed at the 2026 mega-auction despite an injury, and expects her to return fit for the 2027 season.

The 2027 mini-auction takes place two days after the domestic season begins, a scheduling change Klinger said adds complexity for all franchises. He said Gujarat Giants remain confident of taking the next step beyond the Eliminator this season.

CricHubb Take

The real test for Gujarat Giants will come when they try to convert squad depth into knockout wins, not when they add one more overseas option at the auction.
