Ravi Shastri says BCCI had motive for removing him as director
Ravi Shastri claimed the BCCI had an ulterior motive when it removed him as India team director in 2016.
Ravi Shastri said the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee had an ulterior motive when it removed him as India team director in 2016. Shastri claimed there was no reason he should not have continued on merit.
The former India all-rounder said the committee wanted to abolish the director position and asked him to apply for the head coach role. He described the decision as a bad knock on the knuckles that hurt him deeply.
Shastri later returned as head coach from 2017 to 2021. He said the experience taught him how modern players think and how Gen Z approaches the game.

Shastri's comments suggest the 2016 selection process was shaped by personal and institutional tensions that extended beyond cricket considerations.
