Australia had only 12.2 overs in the rain-hit opening day of the second Test at Gqeberha on Sunday. South Africa were 20 for 2 at stumps after losing most of the morning session at St George's Park.

They won the toss and chose to bowl. Play started after a two-hour delay, and South Africa's openers reached 11 for 0 in 5.3 overs by lunch. Scott Boland struck twice, bowling Aiden Markram for 11 and removing David Bedingham for a golden duck the next ball.

Rain returned shortly after tea and there was no more play. Debutant Marques Ackerman is unbeaten on 5 with Temba Bavuma on 4 not out. Australia lead the series 1-0 after winning the first Test by 214 runs.
