Shubman Gill calls 2027 World Cup unfinished business
Gill says the 2023 final loss leaves unfinished business and ranks are no longer his priority ahead of the 2027 tournament.
India captain Shubman Gill described the 2027 ODI World Cup as unfinished business after Australia beat India in the 2023 final. He said players do not get many opportunities to represent their country at the tournament and he is grateful to have another chance.
Gill, who will lead India at the event, said his focus is on contributing to the team rather than individual milestones. He recalled becoming the number one ranked ODI batter during the 2023 World Cup but added that rankings are no longer his primary concern.
India open their 2027 campaign against Australia in Cape Town on 7 October and face Pakistan in Johannesburg three days later.

Gill's comments frame the 2027 campaign as a second opportunity rather than a fresh start, shifting attention from individual records to the team's previous failure.
