Spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan is set to replace Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan’s full-time T20I captain ahead of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. Agha led Pakistan in 50 matches, including the Asia Cup final last year and the T20 World Cup 2026, but has been dropped from the Test squad and is not guaranteed selection for the home series.

Top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan is leading the race to become Shadab’s vice-captain. Farhan topped the run-scoring charts at the T20 World Cup 2026 and led Pakistan at the Asian Games 2026. A PCB insider told PTI that Shadab is the front-runner, with Farhan a close second if appointed.

Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in three T20Is from October 9 to 13. The squad is expected to include several new faces, with senior fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf unlikely to be selected.
