England fast bowler Craig Miles has retired from professional cricket at the age of 32. The Gloucestershire player made the announcement through an open letter on the county's website. Miles last played professional cricket in the Vitality Blast in June.

Miles said he no longer had the capacity to train, play and perform at the standard he expected from himself. He took more than 500 wickets across formats in a 15-year career that included a first-class debut at 16 and victories in both the One Day Cup and County Championship.

Gloucestershire director of cricket Jon Lewis praised Miles for his vulnerability and described the decision as incredibly brave. The club said it would continue to support Miles as he transitions away from professional cricket.

Miles' decision highlights a structural problem in county cricket. The combination of short contracts, performance pressure and limited mental health support creates conditions where even experienced professionals feel they have no choice but to walk away.
