Anvay Dravid, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has been appointed captain of the Karnataka team for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The one-day U-19 tournament will be played in Visakhapatnam from October 8 to 16. The 17-year-old right-handed wicketkeeper-batter recently featured in India U-19's three-match ODI series against Australia in Rajkot.

Anvay played two matches in the series and earlier represented India U-19 on their tour of Sri Lanka in July. Karnataka are placed in Elite Group E alongside Gujarat, Jharkhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

In the rain-shortened first Youth ODI against Australia U-19, Anvay scored 38 off 18 balls with two fours and three sixes, helping India post 182 for 6 and win by seven runs.

CricHubb Take

Anvay's selection shows the system still rewards current form over lineage. He earned the captaincy after producing the decisive late assault in a rain-truncated match, not because of his surname.
