Devon Conway collided with Matt Henry during training and suffered a concussion. NZC confirmed the diagnosis after he was taken to A&E, ruling him out of the first ODI against India.

Tim Seifert stepped in as replacement and opened the batting. New Zealand were dismissed for 185 in 40.2 overs at Eden Park.

India chased a revised target of 143 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method to win by five wickets. The second ODI is scheduled for Wellington on Saturday.

CricHubb Take

Seifert's recall gives New Zealand a chance to test their back-up option before the series gets too deep, but the injury leaves a hole at the top of the order that won't be easy to fill across five matches.
