BCCI offered Harmanpreet Kaur option to retain ODI captaincy but she chose to step down across formats
BCCI offered Harmanpreet Kaur the option to keep the ODI captaincy but she chose to step down from all formats.
The BCCI offered Harmanpreet Kaur the option to retain the ODI captaincy while relinquishing the T20I role, but she decided to step down from both positions. A review meeting was held in Guwahati on Monday, attended by Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia chaired the meeting.
The board wants to build the team around Mandhana ahead of the next World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. A formal announcement on the new captain is expected when selectors meet to pick the squad for the Zimbabwe series. The six-match white-ball series against Zimbabwe will be the first bilateral visit by the Zimbabwe women's team to India.
Harmanpreet had been under pressure after a string of results, but the decision to step down was hers after being given the partial captaincy option.

Harmanpreet's refusal of a partial role suggests she viewed any reduction in authority as incompatible with the leadership model she had established.
