BCCI president says Harmanpreet Kaur will guide new captain Mandhana

Manhas expects Kaur to remain in the team to support new captain Mandhana through the transition, drawing parallels with the men's side's succession model.

BCCI president Mithun Manhas said Harmanpreet Kaur's experience will help Smriti Mandhana settle into the captaincy role after Mandhana replaced Kaur as India's full-time all-format captain earlier this month. Manhas expects Kaur to remain in the team to support the transition.

Manhas drew parallels with the men's team's succession model, where senior players remained available to guide new captains. He said the presence of an experienced figure helps when captains face difficult decisions on the field. Mandhana's first assignment as captain is the limited-overs series against Zimbabwe, which begins with three T20Is in Raipur from Friday.

The 30-year-old has led India on an interim basis in 18 T20Is and four ODIs before taking the full-time role. She won 11 of those 18 T20Is and all four ODIs.
