Akash Anand and Sarfaraz Khan added an unbroken 176-run partnership for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy at Bilaspur. Anand returned to batting after missing wicketkeeping duties on day one due to a finger injury.

The pair came together after Mumbai had lost early wickets. Anand said both players were determined to make up for cheap dismissals in the opening match. He noted Sarfaraz appeared nervous before reaching his fifty, something he had rarely seen from his teammate.

Mumbai had already taken a strong position after bowling Himachal Pradesh out on the first day. The unbroken stand extended their advantage on a flat pitch offering little assistance to bowlers.

The finger injury forced Anand back into the middle order, where he and Sarfaraz have turned a recovery job into a platform Mumbai can defend for the rest of the match.
