Harbhajan Singh accuses Greg Chappell of dividing 2007 World Cup squad

Harbhajan says Chappell divided the dressing room and contributed to the 2007 World Cup exit.

Harbhajan Singh says Greg Chappell ran a divide-and-rule policy when he coached India from 2005 to 2007. The spinner made the claim on the Prakhar Gupta Podcast, calling those years one of the darkest stretches in Indian cricket.

He told the podcast Chappell set teammates against each other, breaking the unity built during the 2003 World Cup cycle. Players who had been close stopped speaking once the Australian took over.

India went out in the group stage after losing to Bangladesh. Harbhajan believes Chappell may have weakened the side on purpose to blunt its challenge against Australia, though he framed it as his own reading of events.

The charge shifts attention from one bad game to the months of mistrust that preceded it, and it raises a question selectors still face: how much internal friction can a dressing room absorb before the next tournament slips away.
