Amit Mishra claims Kohli did not reply after injury comeback assurance

Mishra alleged that promises made by Kumble and Kohli after his 2017 injury were not honoured, ending his international career.

Amit Mishra says he was told he would be back in the side once he recovered from the 2017 T20I injury. The assurances came from coach Anil Kumble and captain Virat Kohli. Kohli, Mishra says, promised a reply in seven to ten days; none came.

Other players who were out for longer stretches were recalled the moment they were fit again. Mishra believes the silence after Bengaluru was the reason his international career ended.

He spoke on the podcast Baith & Bol with Aakash Chopra. Kohli has not responded to the claims.

The real question is why a senior player had to rely on private messages rather than a documented selection pathway. If fitness clearances are still being handled through personal calls, the system is still deciding careers without ever saying the words out loud.
