Arunachal Pradesh set to forfeit Ranji Trophy opener amid legal dispute

Arunachal Pradesh will forfeit its Ranji Trophy opener against Nagaland on Sunday because of an unresolved legal dispute within its state association.

Arunachal Pradesh is set to forfeit its Ranji Trophy Plate group opener against Nagaland at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The state association remains unable to select a team or complete preparations after a legal dispute between two factions of the Arunachal Cricket Association. According to the rules, the team could face suspension for the rest of the season if it does not appear.

Nagaland has already reached Ahmedabad for the fixture. Arunachal's players have appealed to the BCCI for intervention. Captain Kamsha Yangfo said the squad does not know the legal details and has no clarity on next steps. Fast bowler Mibom Mosu warned that missing the season would be a significant setback for players who depend on cricket for their livelihood.

Arunachal also failed to field an Under-19 team for its Vinoo Mankad Trophy opener against Sikkim on Thursday. The senior side is unlikely to take the field while the association remains unable to organise selection or preparations.

The forfeit removes a scheduled match from the Plate group and leaves the BCCI to decide whether suspension follows or whether a compromise can still be reached before further fixtures are lost.
