India Women named Jintimani Kalita as replacement for Renuka Singh Thakur ahead of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Renuka Singh Thakur was ruled out after the BCCI said she is still building the bowling volume required for the 50-over format at the Centre of Excellence. Kalita, who played in the recently concluded T20I series in Raipur, joined the squad in Baroda on Thursday.

India swept the preceding T20I series 3-0. Smriti Mandhana's side won the opening match by four wickets before completing nine-wicket and 92-run victories in the next two matches. The ODI series begins in Vadodara on Friday with Yastika Bhatia, Harleen Deol, Tejal Hasabnis and Pratika Rawal added to the squad.

Captain Smriti Mandhana and vice-captain Deepti Sharma lead the side. Jemimah Rodrigues remains unavailable with a hamstring injury. The series serves as preparation for India's multi-format tour of South Africa in December and the Women's Champions Trophy next year.

CricHubb Take

The absence of Renuka Singh Thakur highlights a recurring issue for India's seam attack heading into the Women's Champions Trophy. The selectors' decision to blood Kalita now gives her a chance to prove she can handle the demands of the 50-over format under pressure.
