The BCCI will send a team to inspect the newly constructed stadium in Varanasi next week to assess whether it meets the board's requirements for hosting competitive cricket. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association wants to host Women's Premier League matches at the venue in 2027.

The stadium, built at a cost of around Rs 450 crore across 31 acres, features trishul-shaped floodlights, a crescent-shaped roof and a damru-shaped media centre. It has a seating capacity of 30,000 and an upgraded drainage system designed to make the ground playable within 30 minutes of heavy rainfall.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in 2023. The UPCA currently hosts matches in Kanpur and Lucknow. Varanasi would become the association's third venue, serving fans in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
