Khawaja says entire Australia squad knew of 2018 ball-tampering plot

Khawaja claims the full squad knew of the tampering; Lehmann disputes the timing of the claims.

Usman Khawaja says the entire Australian team and coaching staff knew about the 2018 ball-tampering plan, and he believes the blame should be shared. He wasn't interviewed by Cricket Australia during the official investigation.

Steve Smith and David Warner each got 12-month bans. Cameron Bancroft was out for nine months. Former coach Darren Lehmann pushed back, arguing that any knowledge of the tactic was an individual matter and that Khawaja's claims reopen old wounds.

Khawaja's autobiography Sabr comes out on Tuesday. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc put out a 2021 statement denying prior knowledge. Khawaja told the three bowlers after the match to treat the incident as a team matter.

Lehmann's comment that 'knowledge was individual' now sits next to the 2021 pacers' denial — two public positions that both contradict Khawaja's account and can't both be true when the book lands.
