Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India captain across all formats
Harmanpreet Kaur resigned as captain across all formats after leading India in 211 internationals and winning the ODI World Cup.
Harmanpreet Kaur resigned as captain of the Indian women's team in all three formats on Tuesday. The decision followed a BCCI review meeting in Guwahati attended by secretary Devajit Saikia, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar.
Kaur led India in 211 internationals across five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is. India won 30 ODIs and 92 T20Is under her captaincy. She guided the side to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2025 and back-to-back Asian Games golds in 2022 and 2026.
The BCCI has not named a successor. Smriti Mandhana is considered the leading candidate for the role. India will host Zimbabwe for three T20Is and three ODIs from October 16.

Kaur's exit removes the only World Cup-winning captain from India's women's setup at a moment when the team has achieved consecutive Asian Games titles, shifting the focus to whether Mandhana can maintain the balance between results and squad evolution.
