Virtual Eye's Sonic system will enter the Decision Review System for the first time when India and New Zealand open their series in Christchurch on Thursday. The New Zealand-built audio tool aims to give third umpires clearer evidence of bat-ball contact.

New Zealand Cricket, Sky and Virtual Eye secured approval after months of testing and an independent review that involved the ICC and the BCCI. With the addition, Virtual Eye now supplies the full DRS package for the three-format tour.

NZC Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Glenn Critchley said the green light followed close work between all parties. Virtual Eye CEO Ben Taylor said the breakthrough capped years of work on accuracy at the top level.

Sonic's arrival gives the BCCI a quiet stake in the next generation of DRS tools, since its backing helped push the system through ICC scrutiny.
