Gareth Batty set to join CSK as batting coach under Zaheer Khan
Gareth Batty is expected to join Chennai Super Kings as batting coach after leaving Surrey following three County Championship titles.
Chennai Super Kings are in talks to bring former England spinner Gareth Batty on as batting coach for the 2027 IPL. Batty left Surrey in January after a 21-year run that ended with three straight County Championship titles. He also coaches MI London in The Hundred.
CSK named Zaheer Khan head coach last month once Stephen Fleming departed. Batting coach Michael Hussey and bowling coach Eric Simons have gone too. CEO Kasi Viswanathan told the Times of India an announcement should land within days.
Batty earned nine Test caps and ten ODIs for England between 2003 and 2009. If confirmed, he would be the first addition to Zaheer’s backroom staff before the December 16 mini-auction.

The bigger question is how Batty’s red-ball pedigree translates to T20 coaching, especially with CSK’s middle order still undecided after the retentions.
