Ayush Mhatre ruled out for four to six weeks with grade 4 hamstring tear
Mhatre suffered a grade 4 right hamstring tear during Mumbai's Ranji Trophy win over Chandigarh and faces four to six weeks out.
Mumbai vice-captain Ayush Mhatre suffered a grade 4 tear in his right hamstring during the opening Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium. The 19-year-old opener scored 48 before sustaining the injury while running between the wickets on October 13. Scans confirmed the severity of the recurrence, and initial assessments put his recovery between four and six weeks.
Mhatre had returned to competitive cricket only recently after spending three months rehabilitating a previous hamstring injury at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The setback leaves Mumbai without both Mhatre and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for the next three matches of the first leg, as Jaiswal travels to New Zealand with India A. Substitute fielder Suved Parkar took Mhatre's place in the field.
Mumbai still secured an innings and 155-run victory, with spinners Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian each taking three wickets. Captain Siddhesh Lad said the bowling unit stood up well in the first win of the season. Suryansh Shedge returns to the squad after representing India A against Australia A.
CricHubb Take
The timing compounds Mumbai's thin top-order depth for the first leg, and any delay in Mhatre's rehabilitation risks pushing him into the middle of the knockout phase with limited match rhythm.
