Ayush Mhatre ruled out for six weeks with Grade 4 tear
Ayush Mhatre suffered a Grade 4 right hamstring tear on day one against Chandigarh and will miss four to six weeks.
Mumbai vice-captain Ayush Mhatre suffered a Grade 4 right hamstring tear during the Ranji Trophy opener against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium. The 19-year-old sustained the injury while running between the wickets during his 48-run innings and did not take the field again. Scans confirmed the damage, and he is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Mhatre had returned to competitive cricket only recently after spending three months at the BCCI Centre of Excellence recovering from a left hamstring tear sustained while playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad said the side would support the batter through his rehabilitation. The team will be without both regular openers for the next fixture against Himachal Pradesh after Yashasvi Jaiswal was named in the India A squad for New Zealand.
Mumbai completed an innings-and-155-run victory over Chandigarh. Spinners Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian each took three wickets in the second innings, while Tushar Deshpande finished with match figures of seven for 70.
