The 44-year-old missed the whole of 2026 with recurring injuries and was speaking at a healthcare event in Bengaluru. He likened himself to an old car that still runs if it gets the right upkeep, adding that doctors need to confirm he can handle another season.
CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanathan said the final call sits with Dhoni, though he sees a real chance the former captain stays on. The franchise has already moved on from coach Stephen Fleming and brought in Zaheer Khan ahead of next season.
