Jess Jonassen ruled out of WBBL with hip injury
Brisbane Heat confirmed that Jess Jonassen will miss the entire WBBL season on medical advice for a hip complaint.
Jess Jonassen has been ruled out of the entire WBBL season due to a hip complaint. The Brisbane Heat all-rounder received medical advice to rest and recover rather than play through the injury. She is the second most capped player in WBBL history.
Brisbane Heat head coach Mark Sorell said the franchise was devastated by the news but would use the absence as an opportunity to work with Jonassen on match-day planning. The team is not negotiating a replacement at this stage.
Jonassen last played in the WNCL and hopes to be available for Queensland's next match on January 4. That fixture may coincide with the WPL 2027 season where she could feature for one of the five franchises.

The timing leaves Jonassen available for the WPL 2027 auction in October, where her all-round skills at a Rs 30 lakh base price could attract interest from teams needing overseas depth.
