Australia posted 322 for nine before rain ended South Africa's chase at 145 for four in 28 overs at Potchefstroom. Mitchell Marsh made his third successive half-century and Alex Carey scored 74. Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa each took two wickets as South Africa lost regular wickets during the pursuit.

South Africa had already secured the series 2-1. The DLS-adjusted margin gave Australia a 45-run victory and prevented a clean sweep. The result gives Australia momentum before the Test series begins.

The match was the final white-ball international before the Test series between the two sides. South Africa's Tony de Zorzi was also injured during the rain-affected game.

CricHubb Take

The consolation win masks a 2-1 series defeat that leaves Australia with questions about their white-ball depth before the Test tour.
