UP Warriorz enter WPL 2027 auction with ₹3.75 crore and eight vacancies

UP Warriorz carry the biggest purse and most vacancies into Wednesday's auction, seeking a middle-order hitter and pace support.

UP Warriorz head into the WPL 2027 mini-auction on October 28 with the largest purse and the most slots to fill among the five franchises. The team retained 10 players, including Meg Lanning, Phoebe Litchfield, Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone, after releasing nine players and trading Tara Norris to Mumbai Indians. They have three overseas slots and five Indian positions available.

The franchise needs a middle-order power-hitter and an additional overseas pace option after the departures of Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon and Kiran Navgire. Wicketkeeping depth is another concern, with Shipra Giri as the only retained keeper. G Kamalini, Grace Harris and Heather Graham are among the players expected to attract interest from UP Warriorz.

Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians each have five or six vacancies, while Gujarat Giants have three. The combined budget for the 27 slots is ₹8.15 crore, with 146 players shortlisted for the auction in Kochi.

CricHubb Take

With eight holes to plug and only ₹3.75 crore to spend, UP Warriorz face the awkward math of whether one expensive overseas hitter will leave them short at the other end of the order.
