The BCCI has set up a three-member panel to handle selections for Arunachal Pradesh’s men’s and women’s squads in all age-group competitions. The decision comes after the state side forfeited its first Ranji Trophy game against Nagaland because of ongoing court cases between two groups inside the Arunachal Cricket Association.

M Khairul Jamal Majumdar, a BCCI apex council member, will lead the process as convener. The panel is made up of former Assam players Satya Gopal Chakraborty, Jayanta Chowdhury and Deep Bora, with Chakraborty as chairman. The selectors will run trials and name sides for the Ranji Trophy, Col CK Nayudu Trophy, Senior Women’s T20 Trophy and Vijay Merchant Trophy.

Devajit Saikia, the board’s secretary, said the main goal is to protect the players. He added that the BCCI does not want any cricketer to lose chances because of problems outside their control. The state team is now set to play its next Ranji Trophy match, against Sikkim in Nadiad, from 18 October.

The intervention shows the board treating player welfare as a structural responsibility rather than a state association matter, setting a precedent that could apply to other states facing similar administrative breakdowns.
