India and Pakistan face possible third clash at 2027 ODI World Cup

India and Pakistan are drawn in the same group for the 2027 ODI World Cup and could meet three times under the new format.

India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet on October 10 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg during the 2027 ODI World Cup group stage. The two sides are placed in Group A along with Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A.

The tournament begins on October 2 in Namibia with a Super Series among the three lowest-ranked teams. The top team from that round joins the 12 direct entrants, who are divided into two groups of six. The top three from each group plus one fourth-placed team advance to the Super 7s round-robin stage.

The Super 7s format and pre-seeding mean India and Pakistan could meet up to three times if both advance through the group stage and the knockout rounds. The ICC cited logistical certainty and commercial appeal for maintaining the fixture structure.

CricHubb Take

The round-robin Super 7s format reduces the risk of early exits for top teams but increases the chance of repeat fixtures, shifting the tournament's jeopardy from group-stage elimination to the later knockout rounds.
