Pragyan Ojha named BCCI men's selection committee chairman

Ojha succeeds Agarkar after serving on the panel since September 2025. Powar fills the vacancy created by the former chairman's departure.

The BCCI on Monday appointed Pragyan Ojha as chairman of the men's selection committee, replacing Ajit Agarkar whose term ended on October 4, 2026. Former India spinner Ramesh Powar was also added to the five-member panel.

Ojha takes the chair based on the number of Test matches played among the members, a criterion that placed him ahead of Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Powar. The Cricket Advisory Committee conducted interviews at BCCI headquarters before recommending Powar for the vacancy.

Agarkar oversaw India's wins in the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, the 2025 Champions Trophy and two Asia Cups during his tenure that began in July 2023. Powar represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs and has previously coached the India women's team, Mumbai and Gujarat.

The appointment of a former left-arm spinner as chairman rather than a batter or all-rounder marks a shift in how India values bowling experience at the selection table. Powar's inclusion adds a coach who has worked at both state and national levels, potentially broadening the panel's perspective on player pathways.
